The Story

RCI Offroad Transmission Skid Plate | 21-Present Bronco & 24+ Ranger

Heavy-Duty Transmission & Exhaust Protection. Steel or Aluminum. 100% Bolt-On.

The Ultimate Shield for Your Drivetrain

Protect your investment with the RCI Metalworks Transmission Skid Plate. Whether you’re navigating tight rock gardens or heading out on a mild camping trip, the transmission and exhaust systems on the 6th Gen Bronco and 2024+ Ranger are notoriously vulnerable to trail debris and jagged obstacles.

Precision-engineered in Fort Collins, Colorado, this armor fills the gap between your engine and transfer case skids, creating a smooth continuous belly pan. It is designed to "Carry Your World" through the toughest terrain without the risk of an expensive transmission failure.

The Problem & The Solution:

The Pain: Factory "protection" is often nonexistent or made of thin, stamped metal that buckles under the weight of the vehicle. One misplaced rock can puncture your transmission pan, leaving you stranded with a $5,000+ repair bill.
The RCI Solution: Choose between 3/16" Steel for maximum impact resistance or 1/4" Aluminum for a lightweight, rust-proof barrier. Both use a 100% bolt-on design to factory mounting points.

Real Owner Feedback ★★★★★

"The peace of mind this skid plate provides is worth every cent. I went with the aluminum to save weight on my Bronco 2.7L. The fitment was perfect and it bolted right up to the existing crossmember holes. Sliding over a high-center rock in Moab last month without a scratch on the trans pan proved its worth immediately."

Frequently Asked Questions

+ Should I choose Steel or Aluminum?

Choose 3/16" Steel if you plan on dedicated rock crawling where repeated heavy impacts are likely. Choose 1/4" Aluminum if you prioritize weight savings, fuel economy, and rust resistance for overlanding and daily driving. Aluminum is 50% lighter but still stronger than OEM.

+ Do I need to drill any holes for installation?

No. RCI transmission skids are 100% bolt-on. They utilize the existing factory attachment points on your Bronco or Ranger frame.

+ Is this skid compatible with my aftermarket lift?

Generally, yes. However, trucks with electronic sway bar disconnects and aftermarket sway bar relocation brackets may require spacers to ensure the skid doesn't interfere with the suspension components.

+ How do I know if I have frame crossmembers?

Typically, Bronco 2.7L models and the 24+ Ranger come with the required crossmembers. Bronco 2.3L models usually do not. Please check the area behind your engine skid plate for a secondary frame support beam before ordering.

+ Will this rust in snowy climates?

If you live in a salt-heavy area, the Aluminum option is highly recommended as it cannot rust. The Steel option features a high-quality powder coat, but any deep scratches from rocks should be touched up with paint to prevent surface oxidation over time.
